Roll on Summer

Well with Labour weekend done & dusted its starting to feel like Summer has arrived up here in the Far North.

With 20deg plus days & the water temp rising, up around the 16deg mark, maybe even warmer with this Northerly blow we are having at the moment its shaping up to be a good one, well this Fisho is hopping so anyway & if the fishing of late is anything to go by we are right on track for a bumper season up here in the Far North.

The Snapper are all over the place at the moment from out deep (40m plus) to in the shallows (3 to 5m) so it pays to check out all those shallow water spots before the Sun comes out then head off out to the deeper water, well been working for Me anyway, fish ya feet first.

No particular coloured Zman’s (softbaits) have been a stand out for Me of late with one colour working one day then a different one the next, what I will say is lighter coloured softies are working better for Me in the morning or when its overcast & darker colours in the brighter conditions, so does pay to have a good selection of colours on hand.

Out in the deeper water the Sliders have been on fire catching some very nice Snapper (7 to 9kg), Kingfish, Johnny’s, Trev’s, Gurnard even a few nice Grandaddies.

Orange Sliders with orange skirts & Candy Apple with orange skirts, I very much like the new curly tails, more action/movement more attention.

Unfortunately the Sharks (Bronze Whalers) are about in good numbers to0 so pays not to muck around to long or you get taxed by the Tax Man.

The Harbour fishing (Whangaroa) is picking up with some good fish in the 50 to 60cm range becoming quite common, great eating size & in great condition, nice & fat.

Dragging your softies behind the boat across the sand/mud or casting forward on the edges of the channels or holes, any drop offs really seems to be the go but once the Sun sticks its head out its time to go deeper.

Have heard that Doubtless Bay is starting to fish well as well as Rangaunu Bay out from Houhora & Rangiputa with lots of double digit fish being landed & released which is good to see/here about.

So if you are up in the Far North over the Summer & Christmas New Year break you can get all your OceanAngler gear/supplies form Johnno & his Team at Hunting & Fishing in Kerikeri or Brian at Coppers Beach Sports & Tackle or Kaden & his Team at Reel Rods brand new store in Taipa plus there other store out on the Karikari Peninsula.

Also keep an eye on the OceanAngler Facebook Page for all the latest info on whats happening.

So take care out there this Summer & good luck.

Happy Days.
