Screaming Reels At The Back Of Ponui Island.
Wednesday 3rd September.
Another stunning day on the briny with plenty of Snapper on the chew.
Up at Sparrows fart & blasted out to the back of Ponui on flat seas.
With the light just breaking the Coro hills I was looking forward to a great days fishing.
Got to My spot & not a soul in sight……..sweet.
First cast & the little Penn starts to scream, god I love that sound, can’t get enough of it.
So after a 10min battle up popped a small King, spot on 80cm, so that went in the bin for the Smoker.
So then had to reset the drift as there was very little wind so needed to stick in the current, so once that was sorted I started to get into the Snapper.
Next couple of fish were in the mid 50cm range & angry, mind you if I had a hook in My lips I would be angry as well.
Then a few in the high 40’s but all solid looking fish.
Towards the top of the tide things started to quieten down & never really picked up as there was very little current & no wind to push Me a long, was a mill pond out there, just glass.
So with a nice bin full of Snaps & not much happening I decided to call it a day & cruised home on glassy seas, took My time as it was such a stunning day.
Flavour of the day was the Nuked Pilchard on 1/2oz Pink Lightbulb & fished from 4 to 12M.
Water temp creeping up to 14.8deg.
So get out there & get em folks.
