2 Days Of Angry Snapper Pulling String At The Back Of Ponui Island.

Day 1. Monday 25th August

Just a stunning day – Sun shining & glassy seas – felt like Summer.

Launched around 8ish on flat seas & headed out to the back of Ponui.

Have been catching some nice Snapper around this area of late & Monday was no different.

No Birds or Dolphins present but plenty of Bait, Bait for Africa & lots of angry string pulling Snapper.

Just what the doctor ordered to put the new OceanAngler Microwave Rod through its paces.

Worked the edges of the fowl & picked up fish on most drifts (4 to 10m).

Didn’t really mater what colour Zman’s I used as they where smashing anything & everything for most of the day, top water, mid water & the bottom if it got that far, crazy fishing for parts of the day.

Nuked Pilchard, New Penny, Bruised Banana, Shinner, Smokey Shad you name it they smashed it even the smaller Snapper where getting in on the action.

Just an all round bloody good day in the sun with plenty of fish.

The  weather really turned it on with the water looking like glass at the end of the day.

Day 2. Tuesday 26th August.

What a difference 12 hours can make.

Left the ramp about the same time as Monday & headed for the same area.

Today was totally different from yesterday apart from another nice bin of fat angry Snapper.

The sea had gone from flat calm mill pond to lumpy bumpy wishy washy & cold – bloody cold.

Was hard fishing today, I had to work real hard to tempt them to bite, they where sitting hard on the bottom & didn’t want to move for nothing & looking at the weather I don’t blame them but after a little perseverance & a lot of patience I managed to get them to bite My plastics but it took time.

They would only bite on a couple of colours today (Nuked Pilchard & Bruised Banana) unlike yesterday when they weren’t fussy.

The fish weren’t as big but still nice eating fish from mid to high 40’s.

So 2 days fishing in the same area under very different circumstances (weather wise) for similar results.

Patience & perseverance were the key for today (Tuesday) finding out where they were & how they were feeding, always learning.

Now onto the Rod.

“Im sold, love the extra length (7.10) & with the Microwave Guide System allows Me to cast further which in turn means I can get further away from the boat & a longer cast means My lure/softbait is in the water for longer which has gotta help in catching more fish as your not going to catch fish with the lure/softbait in your boat.

Now all I have to do is talk Mr Senior into letting Me keep it.
