Bottom End Waiheke 24th August

Sunday morning was looking like a nice day to get some mates out for a fish. SE winds meant that it would be touch and go regarding getting a feed (south = close mouth and east = least so put them together)? There were heaps of Dolphins feeding with small work ups all along the northern side of Waiheke. We stopped for a look but there were no snappers under them, just bait.

Got down to the bottom end and out past Gannet Rock where the workups were last week. The wind was up and it was about 1.5 metres and cold as, so we decided to get in close off  Hooks Bay for a bait fish and lunch as the wind was supposed to drop in the afternoon.

The wind dropped, the tide started to run and the fish finally came on about 2pm. As we hunted around with the sounder we found patches of fish in 28-30mtrs off Anita bay. It was hard fishing and we tried bait on a flasher rig, various jigs, all manners of softbaits, but the rig that caught fish today was the old Zman watermelon lizard with 1/2 oz cast astern.

With a feed of fat pannies we headed home to Tea Atatu on flat seas with smiles on our faces…another day in paradise!

Cheers
