Got invited out on a mates boat today, 5.8m Surtees, so hatched a plan to fish around Ponui as I know it holds fish this time of the year & did pretty well there a couple of weeks back.
So checked the forecast, Southerly 10 knots, OK not ideal but hey lets give it a whirl.

Fished out the back of Ponui Island today for a very nice bin of fat heathy Snapper, man are they in good nick, hard fighting fish, bloody good fun on light gear, I use 6lb main with 10lb leader, maybe a bit light for in around the rocks but I find it gives the softies a better action in shallow water.
