Chasing the spring workups

Chasing the spring workups

Headed out on Friday morning with a couple of mates to check out the spring workup action that has been happening along the east coast up to Kauwau. Decided that we would leave at a gentlemans hour of 9.30am (it was supposed to be an afternoon bite time around midday on-wards). We found our first workup just before Tiri channel around 10am. Bottom End Waiheke 24th August

Bottom End Waiheke 24th August

Sunday morning was looking like a nice day to get some mates out for a fish. SE winds meant that it would be touch and go regarding getting a feed (south = close mouth and east = least so put them together)? There were heaps of Dolphins feeding with small work ups all along the northern side of Waiheke. We stopped for a look but there were no snappers under ...

Taka Cliffs on a Rainy Sunday

Taka Cliffs on a Rainy Sunday

Wind and tide lined up for the outgoing tide and I had a huge burly trail dispersing towards Takapuna boat ramp in no time at all. I was using my little PowerFlex soft baiting rod with fresh squid bait and my first cast was hit by a nice 50cm snapper.

Winter Snaps at Bottom end and Coromandel

Winter Snaps at Bottom end and Coromandel

Looked like a weather window on Sunday so grabbed some mates and headed out at 8.30am from Te Atatu. Destination was the bottom end of Waiheke Island looking at heading over to Coromandel Harbour to have a nosey.

Fished the same area as a couple of weeks ago south of shag over the lumpy bits with an outgoing tide. Picked up a bin full of nice fat pannies on ...
